Baseball season has finally arrived and brings along with it, the potential to enjoy a profit through gambling. An exciting enhancement to any spectator sport.
This will be a little different than the Pope Pall's NFL weekly predictions. Due to the sheer number of games, 162 games for each of the 30 teams, it would be impractical to predict daily winners for you. And to top it off, you wouldn't learn anything about the mechanics of the art. Therein lies the reason for this FREE Seminar*. What I will be doing is presenting clear and precise instructions to making baseball bets that will maximize your payout potential, along with an occasional "Pontifical Secret" lock prediction. The post season playoffs and World Series game predictions will all be posted of course, but that's a long way off.
For today, 01Apr06 let's concentrate on the first lesson...
MAKING A STRAIGHT, EVEN MONEY BET
(I'll cover the other different types of bets along with odds as we progress.) A straight bet is the simplest bet one can make. One game, two teams, you pick the winner. The only thing that could possibly complicate matters is figuring out your payout. That's where understanding odds comes into play.
Below is an image of a staight bet ticket with the odds.
The ticket reads:

Ticket Cost $5.00
Ok, we've already been over the first line, and that's all I'm betting on, one game, one winner. A straight bet.
On the second line you have the number of the team you have bet on, which is the team that directly follows the number.
(You will always use the teams number when placing a bet, you cannot tell the ticket writer the name of the team you wish to bet on, he will ask for the number.)
In this case I have bet on the San Fransisco Giants to win this afternoons game. (My wife's bet, I don't bet on exhibition games, consider that this weeks tip)
The third line tells us the odds and the type of bet, (MLB stands for "Money Line Bet" not Major League Baseball) thus we can figure our payout, in this case it is extremely easy. Even money means you get back exactly what you bet. I'm looking to win $5.00 plus my original $5.00 back which equals $10.00 bucks total, couldn't be easier.
San Fransisco is the under-dog in today's game. The Oakland A's are favored to win, and you wont get even money on them. Instead of seeing EVEN on the third line, you would see a number with a minus sign in front of it, which means you have to put up whatever the amount is to win 100. For example a -120 means that you would have to wager 120 to win 100, in other words your winning .80 cents for your dollar. I've seen favorites at -600 and higher, incredible to think anyones going to put up 600 to win 100. It's not rally worth risking that much to win so little. Unless, possibly you're just filthy rich. What I'm all about here is Maximizing Your Payout and getting the biggest bang out of the smallest of your betting dollars.
Anytime there's just a number with no minus sign attatched indicates that that's the underdog and the number is the amount you get when you bet a dollar. Just insert the decimal point yourself, unless you wanna talk in hundreds. You can get current odds for leroys sports book online, click this link.
